Journals and Notes due 9/30/16 by 3PM

Notes include:
1. Annotation of Salvador and 100 words on tone
2. Einstein letter group work
3. Stevenson Annotation
4. Questions 1-8 on "Superman and me"
5. 200 words on self editing
6. Annotation of "Grit"
7. "On Compassion" question 2 and 4
8. Syntax Analysis

New vocabulary should be included in the notes or journals.
Journals should be typed and in one document.

Comparison/Contrast Essay

Paragraphs 1-6 from “On Compassion” and paragraphs 1-3 from “Just Walk On By”  both describe an encounter between two people and offer reflection on its meaning.
Compare and contrast the rhetorical choices made by the authors in each piece.
Possible topics:
Point of view
Speaker
Tone: diction, syntax, figurative language, details, imagery.
Use of the three appeals
Modes of Discourse: Description, Definition, Narration, Process Analysis, Division/Classification, Comparison/Contrast, Persuasion, Example, Cause and Effect.
Any other rhetorical choices.
