Directions: The following prompt is based on the four sources we have considered over the last week. This question requires you to synthesize a variety of sources into a coherent, well-written essay. When you synthesize sources, you refer to them to develop your position and cite them accurately.
Your argument should be central; the sources should support the argument.
Avoid merely summarizing sources.
Remember to attribute both direct and indirect references.

Introduction
Throughout history, the way a society enforces law must strike a balance between protecting the public from danger and promoting a sense of rehabilitation in the criminal. Present day America is no stranger to the problems and difficulties in finding and maintaining this balance.

Assignment

In an essay that synthesizes at least three of the sources for support, take a position about what issues should be considered most important in making decisions about the future of America’s criminal justice system.
