Answer one of the following prompts below with a 600-800 word literary analysis essay, which features:

Sentence variety by having at least five compound sentences and five complex sentences.
Direct quotations with prove strong evidence of your argument.
Uses strong, concise topic sentences to guide the reader.

PROMPTS:
A. Discuss one central theme of The Things They Carried.
B. Discuss the use of symbolism in The Things They Carried.
C. Discuss the use of irony in The Things They Carried.

The first draft of this essay will be Due on 6/1 by the end of school.

Essays must be typed or written in black ink.
Essays must be double-spaced.
Only hard copies will be accepted. No files on disc.

After the graded first draft is returned, corrections and revisions will be required.

The following rubric will be used to grade the essays.

3---All paragraphs have topic sentences but these may be weak, wordy, or otherwise ineffective.
4---Strong, concise and direct topic sentences.
