Speech Assignment

Each speech:

*Must use five different speech devices.
*Must be a minimum of 3 minutes in length.

Each speech is worth up to 10 points. Speeches will be evaluated in two categories, speech content and oration skills. Each category is worth up to five points.

All speeches are due on Thursday 1/18 at the start of class.


5 Points
Content-The speech is organized, meets all five requirements, meets the minimum time limit, and contains interesting and lively language.
Oratory-Oration is clearly audible, well articulated and diplomatically presented.


4 Points
Content-Includes all five requirements, meets the minimum time limit but lacks organization and lively language.
Oratory-Oration is rushed, given with a few errors; speaker’s presence is weak and lacking.


3 Points
Content-The speech may not include one of the critical categories mentioned above.
Oratory-Oration may be difficult to hear or understand. Oration may seem read, and unrehearsed.

2 Points
Content-The speech may not include two of the critical categories mentioned above.
Oratory-The speech is difficult to hear, understand, and follow. Speaker lacks any presence and speech is unrehearsed.

1 or 0 Points
Content-The speech meets none of the requirements.
Oratory-The speech includes inappropriate comments or attacks.

Should the Middle School combine with the High School?
What is the best course of action in Iraq?
Are the MCAS a good requirement for graduation?
Should the High School implement a dress code?
Should the High School have all male and all female classes?
How important is family?
How important is education?
What changes should be made to the American Education system?
Should America have universal health care?
